No, soldiers are not trained to be replaceable. That is as vast a misrepresentation as this whole affair has heard.

What service members are trained, by the head trainer (Commander), is to cross train. That is, provide for the unit to perform it's mission in your absence. I doubt I was the only one that was also taught that the Army (a unit for the purposes of UCMJ jurisdiction) will go on without me. That is, have some humility.

Neither of these fit the narrative that no individual can be claimed as mission critical. It reminds me of that deliberation scene from Philadelphia. Do I give that mission to someone that can get the job done, or to someone else to see if they rise to challenge?

I'll endeavour to be humble, but don't talk to me like I'm a two year old.
